Baby food section at Babies R Us.

In the US, infants start solids when they're 4-6 months old.

最初に紹介する食べ物のことをfirst food(最初の食べ物)と言います。
First foodとして定番なのは、rice cereal (お米から出来た粉末のシリアル)。
The first food that is introduced to the infant is referred to as 'first food.'
Rice cereal is commonly introduced as the baby's first food.
Other common foods are apples, bananas, avocados, carrots, sweet potatoes, etc. It's not that different from what babies eat in Japan.

Baby food is sold in three different forms - glass bottles, plastic containers, and pouches.

I think pouches are the most popoular. Pouches are so convenient when you're on-the-go because you don't need a spoon, it's light-weight, and you don't have to worry about any spills. Babies like it too because they can feed themselves by just sucking on the pouch.

In the US, it's not too difficult to find organic products and the same goes for baby food, too. Many pouches aren't only organic, but are packed with nutrients that the baby needs for his/her growth. For babies that are in the mid or later stages of baby food, pouches contain a variety of fruits, veggies, grains, meat, and fish.

Superfoods such as kale, quinoa, amaranth, chia seeds are often listed as one of the ingredients used in pouches. People in the US eat superfoods from when they're infants! But at the same time, the US is also a country with a high obesity rate.
