短大で受けてた夏の授業が終わり、私の夏休み、やっとはじまりました！
Finished my summer class at community college and now, I get to enjoy my summer break!

One step closer to obtaining my early childhood education license!

今回は、アメリカの短大に行ってみて、なるほど〜と思ったことを紹介します♫
This time, I want to introduce some things that I thought were interesting at the community college. 

まずは、色んな学力レベルの方がいること。アメリカの４年制の大学のように入試は、ない！ある程度の英語力があれば、誰でも好きな授業を受けることができます。
First, there are people from a variety of different academic backgrounds and skills. Unlike four-year universities, there are no entrance exams! So as long as you have some English skills, you can take whatever classes you like. 

なので、クラスにかなり年配（６０代など）の方たちもいます。母国語が英語ではない人もたくさん。もちろん高校卒業して、４年制の大学に編入するような勉強もできる若い子もいます。デメリットとしては、誰でも入れるので、学力レベルがあまり高くない場合もあります。特にグループでプレゼンをする時は、あまりにもグループメンバーの学力レベルが違うので、困ることもあります。
So there may be a wide variety of age groups in the class (even people in their 60s!). And there are many people who aren't native English speakers. Of course, there are students who just graduated from high school and are planning to transfer to a four-year university. One drawback is that the academic standards may not be so high. It's a challenge sometimes working in groups because of such difference in academic skills. 

先生も生徒も服装自由。これは、アメリカの短大だけでなく、どの学校でも言えるようなことかな。なので、誰が教授で誰か生徒なのか分からないこともあります。
People are free to wear whatever they like. So sometimes, it's hard to tell who the professors and students are. 

教授をファースト・ネームで呼ぶこともあります。Professor 〇〇（ファースト・ネーム）で呼んだり、Professorも入れずに友達のように〇〇（ファースト・ネーム）で呼んだり。だいたい先生の方から、「こう呼んでね。」と教えてくれます。
We call professors by their first names at times. Sometimes, we say, "Professor xxx (first name)" or simply "xxx (first name)" just like how you would address a friend. Teachers usually tell you how they want to be called. 

授業中、飲食自由。アメリカの学生、授業中に色んなもの食べてます。フラペチーノを飲みながらチョコレートクッキーとグミ一袋を食べてる子、フルーツ食べてる子、サラダを食べてる子。先生も休憩時間中に堂々とサンドイッチやヨーグルトを食べてたりします。
Eating and drinking are allowed during class. So I see students drinking frappuccinos while eating chocolate cookies and gummies, eating fruits, and even salads! Even the professors eat during breaks - like sandwiches and yogurt.

久しぶりにyoutubeに動画をアップしました！
It's been awhile since I last posted a video on youtube. 



今回は、歌ではなく、cheer（歓声）の紹介。良かったらお子様と一緒にやってみてください♫
去年、私が娘のクラスルームでボランティアをした後に生徒たちがみんなこのようなcheerを毎回してくれました。
This time, I'm not introducing a song, but instead, some cheers. Try this with your child! When I volunteered at my daughter's class last year, the students would do these cheers for me every time. 

先生が生徒たちに "Shall we do a cheer?”（cheerをしようか？）と聞くと、みんなすごい大声で、"YES!!"と返事して、cheerをしてくれました。
The teacher would ask everyone, "Shall we do a cheer?" and then all the students would scream, "YES!!" and then do a cheer for me. 

今日から新学期。娘、１年生になりました〜。今年の夏、日本で体験入学してた時は、「アメリカの学校に戻りたい。」と言っていたのに、今は、「英語が分からない」という理由で学校に行きたくないそうです。
My daughter's a first grader from today. When she went to elementary school in Japan a during summer break, she said, "I want to go back to my school in the US," but now, she says she doesn't want to go to school because she doesn't understand English. 

学校が好きな子もいると思うけど、そうでないタイプです。しょうがないよね。私もそうだったな〜。
I know there are kids who love school, but she's not the type. Oh well. I used to be like that, too.
