It's been a while since my last post.

The kids and I stayed in Japan for about a month and a half. We came back to the US the other day!

Look at all this luggage! We left for Japan with 2 suitcases and came back with 4.

For both going to Japan and coming back, it was just me and the kids. To make matters even better (?), I decided to take a flight that makes a stop in LA. The kids and I managed this whole situation pretty well. The kids behaved really well during the whole flight, but walking around the airport in LA on our way back was a pain. I had to pick up our luggage and then check it in again and we had to walk around a lot inside the airport, so I wouldn't recommend this to anyone with kids. But because we chose a 1-stop flight, our ticket was about $700 cheaper per person compared to a direct flight.

Would you pick a flight that's cheaper, but may be a lot more work? I'll always be the type of person that chooses a cheaper flight even if it tires me out...

It's been a while 久しぶり
luggage 荷物
managed this whole situation pretty well

If you can dream it, you can do it. - Walt Disney

There are a lot of famous quotes by Walt Disney, but this is probably one of my favorites.

So simple, but yet so powerful. And so true! Hopefully, one of my dreams will come true next month! If it does, will likely post about it.

Have a great day!  TGIF! *

In my daughter's case, English is spoken at school and other times, it's mainly Japanese.

My daughter's at school for 6 hours.
She just started going to school about a month ago.

My daughter isn't a native English speaker now, but she's picking up on a lot of English at school.
Recently, she started mixing some English words into her sentences at the house.

And one thing I realized - listening to her talk, she tends to say verbs in English.
For example, she will say "Today, I ran at school." in Japanese, but she would use the verb 'run' in English instead of Japanese. Same with "Today, I sang at school." She would say 'sing' (she doesn't know past tense yet) in English instead of Japanese.

She knows how to say her verbs in Japanese, but she says them in English.
Some of her Japanese friends who aren't fluent in English yet do the same thing too.
Maybe this is how kids become bilingual. How interesting!

It's almost Halloween! This month, I'll try to do as much Halloween-related songs and crafts as I can.

今回は、私の大好きな歌、Five Little Pumpkins (または、Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate)を紹介してみました。
This time, I'm introducing a song that I really love called, 'Five Little Pumpkins (also known as Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate).' Please check it out.

Here is the Japanese translation of this song.

Five Little Pumpkins/5

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate
The first one said, “Oh my it’s getting late.”
The second one said, “There are witches in the air.”
The third one said, “But we don’t care.”
The fourth one said, “Let's run and run and run!”
The fifth one said, “I'm ready for some fun.”
“Wooooooo” went the wind,
And out went the lights.
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

There is a famous book with just the lyrics of this song. The illustration is simple. Not too many pages and it's a boardbook. That means it's perfect for toddlers!

Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes
Eric Litwin
HarperCollins Children's Books
2014-05-08

このシリーズの中で、一番有名なのが、この「Pete the Cat: I love my White Shoes」。 Because it's all good”(何でも大丈夫なんだよ。)

Amazon.co.jp

Level: For storytelling: ages 0~, for reading alone: ages 4-7

Kids in the US love "Pete the Cat" books, which are all about Pete, a cool, blue cat. These books are great for storytelling, too! The most famous out of all the "Pete the Cat" books is probably "Pete the Cat: I Love my White Shoes." Pete wears his brand new white shoes outside, but he steps on several things. The colors are vibrant and a little funky, so that will catch your kid's attention for sure. "Because it's all good" is the message that the readers get out of this book. There's a song that Pete sings in the story, so you can sing along, too! There are lots of repetition, so kids will want to copy and sing along.
